The President Of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has finally spoken to the Nation after weeks of persuasion and #EndSARS protests with the youths demanding the president speak on the current issues of the country.
On Thursday, October 22 at 7 pm, two days after #EndSARS protesters were shot at the Lekki toll gate- the shooting has since degenerated into chaos- the president addressed the nation.
Speaking to Nigerians, the president stated that Nigerians “misconstrued” the “promptness” with which the government acted on the #EndSARS demands “as a sign of weakness”.
He went further to blame the #EndSARS protest for the destruction of properties and the loss of human lives. He then listed the “measures and initiatives” the government has put in place for “youths, women and the most vulnerable groups in our society.”
President Buhari also called on the youths to discontinue the street protests and to go about their daily business normally.
The speech failed to go down well with Nigerians as they took to Twitter to react to the president’s speech with celebrities finding it disgusting for the president not to say anything about the Lekki Massacre.
Celebrities went on to express despair and disappointment noting that there is no more hope in Nigeria.
Nigerian singer, Simi took to her Twitter page to react to the speech saying it has destabilized her.
