2320 ViewsCrack Ghanaian featherweight boxer, Emmanuel “Agogo” Mensah has declared that he will be the first to defeat Nigeria’s Taiwo “Esepor” Agbaje, the West African Boxing Union (WABU) featherweight champion when they clash at GOtv Boxing Night 26. Agbaje, who has won all his 10 professional bouts in Nigeria and England, and Mensah will headline the event, which will hold at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall on Saturday. Speaking by phone from his Accra base, Mensah said he has seen many of Agbaje’s fights in Nigeria and England and he is convinced he has what is required to stop the Nigerian from extending his undefeated status. “I saw him fight at Bolton and Liverpool. Good boxer he is, but I’m better. Apart from being better, the advantage of seeing him fight, getting to know his strengths and weaknesses puts me in a better position to shut his mouth. I can see that he’s been boasting, but those boasts will be busted on Saturday,” said Agogo. The Ghanaian added that Esepor will not last the distance. “It will be a TKO. After that, I will challenge him for his WABU belt and beat him again,” he bragged. Agbaje recently returned from the UK where he has had three fights, winning all. He famously defeated Waidi “Skoro” Usman in a dismissive fashion in his last fight at GOtv Boxing Night. Also returning to GOtv Boxing Night are Abolaji “Afonja Warrior” Rasheed, who made two unsuccessful attempts at the Commonwealth middleweight title; and teak-tough lightweight fighter, policeman Prince “Lion” Nwoye. Afonja, a big fan favourite, will face Jafaru “Tanko” Suleiman in a national super welterweight challenge duel, while Nwoye will take on Funso Moshood in a national challenge duel. The show, which will be aired live on Supersport in 50 African countries, will equally feature, Stephen “Freeman” Kadima, winner of the Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy at the last edition, against Muritador Monyasahu in a cruiserweight bout; Barthlomeu Abuchi and Samuel “African Mayweather” Adebayo; Ayobami “Latest” Azeez and Sodiq “Golden Boy” Oyakojo in the lightweight division. In the welterweight category, Kabiru “KB Snipper” Salawu will take on Yusuf Ogunbunmi, while Tosin “Soja Boy” Osaigbovo will face Tajudeen Amusa in a super bantamweight challenge. The best boxer of the night will go home with N1million cash prize attached to the Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy, while the runner-up will win N500,000.
