There was glits and glamour at this year’s edition of Glamorous Role Model Awards, which held at Ai Royal Hotel and Suites, Ikorodu, Lagos on Sunday 27th December, 2020.
Prominent indigenes of Ikorodu land received various awards on various sectors such as Modeling, Business, Politics, Philanthropy amongst others.
The awards, which was primarily set up to reward those who have contributed to development one way or the other in their chosen professions, began in 2012.
“The idea started from giving back to the industry that made me, though, I got my breakthrough outside the country as a model,” says the founder of the award, Ambassador Tokunboh Odedina-Casson, who is in the modeling industry.
Odedina-Casson said that she had been into modeling before she traveled out of the country.
“I thought of doing something for our sets (the ex super model) at that time because there was nobody to reward us for what we have done, even for the commercials and everything.
“I just felt that let me appreciate my people, that’s how it all started and the vision keeps growing each year,” she said.
Speaking further, Odedina said that the model awards was initially named “Glamour Night with Nigerian Models,” when it started, but that it was later changed to “Glamorous Role Model Awards,” adding that the edition was the 6th series of glamour, but 3rd edition of the Role Model Awards.
“The Role Model Awards encompasses the entertainment, fashion, politics, all practitioners in the entertainment industry and the public sector.
“We intend to reward all our models, those who have contributed their quota to the society, people who inspire us, people we aspire to be like. We have a whole lots of them out there. We just decided to appreciate them so that they could keep on being good role models to the people around them.
“The youths are looking up to them and they continue to emulate them one way or the other. It would be a good encouragement for them to keep doing good,” she said.
The founder foresaw the awards next year to be a great one, going places, moving from Nigeria to be staged internationally.
“What we want to start doing now is going from state to state. We have held one in Elegushi area of Lagos, we have done in Ikeja, now we came to IIkorodu. That’s why most of the recipients are Ikorodu indigenes that have contributed to the development of Ikorodu land, like the late Oba Salaudeen Oyefusi.
“It’s a commemorative and posthumous award. Oyefusi ruled Ikorodu for 43 years that’s when development started in Ikorodu. So, it’s getting bigger each year. We want to be bringing in international artistes and recipients and spread our tentacles.
“We have awarded His Royal Highness, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi. We took the award to him in his palace, and he promised to host us in Ife in Osun State.
“May be the next awards ceremony would be staged at his grand resort, and definitely most of the awardees would be indigenes of Osun State.
The awardees at the event included HRM, Oba Gbolahan Akanbi Timson, Jagunmolu of Bariga, Chief Taiwo Lakanu (retired deputy Inspector General of Police), Chief Opral Benson, Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba, HRH, Ambassador (Dr.) Olori Muyiba Olayinka Oyefusi, Pastor Idowu & Pastor (Dr.) Mrs. Siju Iluyomade and many others.
Meg Alabi (Alabi Couture), a fashion designer of over two decades, also showcased her new collections on the runway.
There was no dull moment at the event as artistes thrilled the guests to unforgettable moments with “swagalicious” songs.
The event was hosted by the duo of Fiona Omoye Gilbert and Adetunji Richard Johnson.
