Biden, USA President-Elect

Congratulatory messages have been pouring in for former US Vice President, Joe Biden who has just been elected the 46th President of the country. He defeated the incumbent President Donald Trump, polling 284 Electoral College Votes over his rival’s 214.

President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu congratulated Presideent- Elect Biden on his victory at a time of uncertainty and fear in world affairs. He noted that respect for the will of the people is why democracy remains the best form form of government : “I am thrilled by the fact that you are an experienced politician who had served as Congressman for 40years and Vice President for eight years.This remarkable track record gives us hope that you will add value to the presidency and world affairs.”

On his part, former President Olusegun Obasanjo in a letter addressed to Biden and Vice-President -Elect, Kamala Harris congratulated the duo on their well-deserved victory. He said: ” Your victory is not for you and the people of America alone but victory for most people of the world, majority of whom watch helplessly as the world that had been steadily and painstakingly built since the end of the Second World War was being pulled down.”

Also, former Nigerian Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, in his congratulatory message said he looked forward to the age-long collaboration of the two Nations in the course of the advancement of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all peoples.
World leaders have also congratulated Biden.

UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson said he looked forward to working with the president-elect on shared priorities like climate change trade and security, just as the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo reacted on Twitter by declaring “Welcome Back America!”

For Canadian leader Justin Trudeau, he emphasized the close alliance between Canada and the US in his remarks.
“Congratulations Joe Biden and Kamala Harris,” Trudeau wrote on Twitter while Irish Prime Minister, Micheal Martin said : ” I want to congratulate the new President Elect of the USA, Joe Biden”, on Twitter.
